Restoring the joy of learning through school choice
Oklahoma has the ninth-highest bullying rate in the nation, with nearly one in five students experiencing rumors, insults or even violence from peers. These experiences can have long-lasting impacts on students’ mental health, well-being and academic success.
It can be heartbreaking for families to watch a child’s confidence fade as school becomes a place of stress rather than learning. Parents want their children to feel safe, supported and excited about learning, which can open the door to exploring a new educational environment.
During National School Choice Week this year (Jan. 25–31), families across the state considered alternatives such as homeschooling, online learning or other flexible models.
For students who have experienced bullying, online education can provide an opportunity to reset while learning from the comfort of home. As Jennifer Pace, executive director of Insight School of Oklahoma (ISOK), shares in a recent guest column, virtual learning can help students rebuild confidence and rediscover the joy of school.
“At ISOK, we’ve seen students renew their excitement around education while minimizing stress and distractions,” Pace explains.
ISOK is equipped to provide the essentials students need to thrive again, including stability, structure and a supportive environment where students feel safe.
School choice ensures families don’t have to accept bullying as inevitable, and that every child has a pathway forward.
