Building Meaningful Connections in a Digital World

Today’s students have grown up in a digital world. From social interactions to entertainment, technology is a natural part of how they connect and communicate.

What happens when educators use those same tools to strengthen student engagement and build school communities?

In a recent McAlester News-Capital op-ed, Insight School of Oklahoma (ISOK) school counselor Pamela Keller explores how virtual schools can create meaningful opportunities for students to connect with peers and educators beyond traditional instruction.

At ISOK, students can engage through the K12 Zone, an immersive online environment that encourages exploration, interaction and collaboration. The platform supports students through:

Virtual school events and activities
Peer-to-peer social opportunities
Career exploration and educational experiences
Wellness resources, including a virtual calming room

These experiences can be especially valuable for students who have struggled to find their place in traditional school settings. By creating opportunities for students to connect in ways that feel comfortable and accessible, schools can help foster confidence, engagement and belonging.
